Our Objective
HOW WE EVALUATE
Harpeth
Futbol Club Coaching Director Sterling Nabours and a staff of professional
trainers and coaches evaluate all players during the try-out session
workouts and scrimmages. They’ll be looking for foot skills, athletic
ability, knowledge of the game, hustle and competitiveness. Their evaluations
will be made available to coaches of HFC teams in each age group and
will be one basis for recommended team assignments.
The
other basis is the level of commitment of the player and his/her parents.
Our premier teams typically play more games, enter more tournaments,
and are more likely to go out of town once or twice a season. Our classic
teams typically play fewer games, enter fewer tournaments, and generally
travel to sites within an hour or so of Bellevue.
Make sure you indicate on your registration form the level of competition
and commitment that you and your young player are prepared to make.
Please be sure everyone wishing to try out comes ready to play. (This
means shin guards, cleats and soccer ball at the ready.)
SELECTION
PROCESS
Depending
on the number of qualified players in any given age group, the club
may organize more than one team. Our evaluators and respective coaches
will recommend the appropriate team based on the skill level of the
individual player and the level of commitment by the parents. If the
evaluators do not believe a player is ready for competitive play, they
will recommend another year in recreational soccer with special skills
training by the Club. If your player is deemed ready for select soccer,
but existing HFC teams do not have roster availability, we will advise
you of another club or try to place your player on a “developmental”
roster if you prefer.

PARENTS AND PLAYERS HAVE THE LAST
WORD ON TEAM ASSIGNMENT
HFC
will make team recommendations to allow each player to participate at
a level suitable to his or her skills. Some players, of course, would
rather play at a lower level if several friends are on the team. Some
premier players may not be able to make the commitment of time required
for that level of competition and may opt instead for a developmental
squad with a less demanding schedule.
You and your young player will have the opportunity
to discuss these options with HFC coaches and board members after try-outs
and before team assignments are finalized for next season.

NOTIFICATION
PROCESS
The
respective coach in your age division will notify you as to whether
or not your child will be asked to join a team. If you have not been
notified by that time, you should go to our website at www.harpethfutbolclub.com
and find the phone number of the coach in your
respective age division and call the coach directly. As a last resort,
you may call Sterling Nabours at 662-1466 and leave a message stating
your child’s name and age division and his status regarding team selection.

HOW WE PICK
OUR COACHES
Harpeth
Futbol Club retains the right to select the coaches for all teams affiliated
with HFC. All HFC coaches are required to meet the state’s licensing
requirements for the age group and competitive level they wish to coach.
Many HFC coaches, in fact, exceed those requirements. (Please click
here to learn more about our coaching staff.) We also expect our
coaches to be able to handle themselves appropriately, to be good examples
and role models for young athletes, and to be able to teach and work
with young people of the age they will be coaching. We retain the right
to terminate those coaches who do not meet our standards.

FEES
& EXPENSES
Each
team is responsible for setting the team dues based on the team training
and number of tournaments the team commits to. Most teams that have
not reached high school will play a fall season, indoor season (Winter)
and spring season. Please consult with the coaches within you age group
for an estimate of costs.

OUR
OBJECTIVE
Our
objective is to offer each young player an opportunity to improve individual
skills, through quality instruction and coaching, and through competition
at a level appropriate to the player’s ability and commitment.
